Day 4: Closure of SEforALL Forum co-hosted by the Government of Rwanda; We are done talking! Are you?

The Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) forum, came to an end on May 19, 2022, after so many sessions of programming focused on advancing a clean and inclusive energy transition around the world. The last day came in with commitments made to Energy Access and Transition.

Mujawamariya Jeanne d’Arc, the minister of Environment in Rwanda shared her appreciation towards the forum organizers and urged all the revealers to Visit Rwanda which is looking forward to hosting CHOGM 2022. 

In her closing remarks, Damilola Ogunbiyi, the CEO and special representative of the UN Secretary-General for Sustainable Energy for All said “While we celebrate the success of this global SEforALL forum, we also recognize that there is still a long way for us to go. Therefore we need urgent and decisive actions to drive forward as people-centered energy transition.”

Damilola extended her special thanks to His Excellency, President Paul Kagame and the Government of Rwanda for co-hosting the forum and she also thanked all the participants, especially the team that made the consecutive events happen.

“Our work doesn’t stop here, not until we achieve SDG7.”

Regarding the commitments, some financial support was made to Energy Access and Transition where the Forum closed with USD 347 Million; including Simon HarFord, the Global Energy Alliance CEO who announced their expanded partnership with SEForALL in tackling poverty around the world with $50M. The Energy Catalyst announced €40M to Energy Access innovation projects and Mike Bloomberg announced $242M to promote Clean Energy in 10 developing countries just to mention a few.

Wrapping up on all the inspiring discussions, talks and new connections all the participants gained over the past amazing four days; including the first one, pre-forum and the three days at the forum in Kigali, Some decisions were made under the theme saying, “Let’s turn all the talks into specific actions towards achieving #SDG7. We are done talking! Are you?”
