RCCDN Conducting Climate Justice Campaign as a Human Rights Concern

Rwanda Climate Change and Development Network (RCCN), which was established as a solution towards the coordination of CSOs, conducted ‘Climate Justice in Gisagara District’ on December 10, 2022, in ensuring efficient engagement in climate change and environmental management work on both national and international level ups. 

With the mission of being the lead network in Rwanda that advocates for community resilience to climate change, justice and equitable development, RCCDN as a Pan-African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA) member in regard to Guard Africa Project, worked collaboratively on the campaign aimed to promote Climate Justice and Advocacy which was officially launched on November, 26 in Gisumbi District and ended on December 10 in Gisagara District.

The campaign started with the Rwandan monthly community work organized by Gicumbi District authorities and the National Commission for Human Rights in Rwanda and so more than 600 RCCDN translated and simplified versions of booklets that contain the Policy and Law on the environment and climate change were distributed.

In the official closing of the 2 week – Climate Justice Campaign as well as the closure celebration of the 74th International Human Rights Day 2022 that RCCDN played a big part in, the ceremonies held in Gisagara District intended to highlight that, “Climate Justice is a Human Rights Concern” as a huge connection towards the pillows of development in regards to the SDG, so Global Commitment is needed to ensure the moving forward of the human being.

Furthermore, in line with Climate Justice Campaign, towards the end of International Human Rights Week, there were Cycling Competitions as the RCCDN call to action in reducing air pollution and protecting the environment, in partnership with PACJA, RCCDN awarded 6 winners who were outstanding youths among the headliners of the Cycling Competitions in the closure of this Climate Justice Campaign.
