Multi-Stakeholder Pre-COP27 Dialogue meeting involving CSOs & Government of Rwanda Climate Negotiators

Rwanda Climate Change and Development Network (RCCDN) organized a Pre-COP27 Dialogue meeting in which Rwandan Civil Society, Government, and Private Sector came together on October 21, 2022, at Lemigo Hotel in Kigali and together they agreed on the country’s climate change position ahead of COP27.

As the event started, the RCCDN Coordinator, Faustin Vuningoma welcomed the participants and in his opening remarks, he said, “We are here for the Multi-Stakeholder Pre-COP27 Dialogue meeting involving CSOs & Government of Rwanda Climate Negotiators. It is an African People COP to bring the best we always anticipate.”

Trocaire Country Director, Marleen Levina Masclee urged everyone to consider the Climate Change matter since it must be addressed with much attention and action by all means. She added, “To those going to convey our messages to COP27, let’s hope that history will be made and our voice will be heard as this is the African People COP.”

It is so obvious that Climate Change is a global issue and so Climate Justice is needed for every individual. The Rwanda Environment Management Authority representative, Herman Hakuzimana who is the Adaptation and Mitigation Specialist as well said, “Climate Change is there and it is real. We have to address it with many efforts, discuss the priorities, and take them as far as we can manage. Let’s share the experience and strategize better.”

As the guest of honour, Herman Hakizmana, therefore, shared a quick reflection on COP26 from the Rwanda perspective prior to showcasing some priorities of Rwanda for COP27 and some of which are; Mitigation, Loss and Damage, and Accessible Finance as well.

“Our common position was highlighted in the essence of moving with the Climate Torch which the Pan-African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA) initiated as the African Continent in need of Climate Justices,” said Faustin Vuningoma, the RCCDN Coordinator.

Coming to an end, both Janvier Rukwatagye, the RCCDN Board Member in his vote of thanks and Herman Hakuzimana, the Environment and Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Specialist at REMA in his closing remarks expressed their gratitude to all the revealers and called everyone to take action in ensuring Climate Justice for every individual and the way forward to COP27 in his vote of thanks.
